Pax Autocratica

Pax Autocratica Price and Demo

What Pax Autocratica costs, what Early Access means for this game, and why the demo disappeared the day Early Access launched. Refund window covered too.

Updated Aug 13 · Last verified: 2026-08-13

Pax Autocratica is a paid, one-time purchase on Steam. There is no free tier, no battle pass, and — as of August 2026 — no demo. The demo that many players downloaded in July was pulled the moment Early Access began, and a forum moderator has since confirmed it is not coming back.

This page covers what it costs, what Early Access buys you right now, and what to do if you were counting on trying it first.

What Pax Autocratica costs

Price
Full price $29.99 USD
Launch discount $24.89 USD (17% off)

The 17% cut is a launch sale tied to the Early Access release on August 10, 2026. Launch discounts on Steam normally run one to two weeks, so treat $24.89 as temporary rather than the standing price.

Regional pricing applies as usual — check your own store page for the local figure.

What Early Access means for this game

Pax Autocratica is tagged Early Access, which on Steam means the developer is selling an unfinished game and saying so. For this title specifically:

  • It is being patched fast. Three patches landed in the first four days after launch — August 11, 12 and 13
  • The developer is visibly reacting to player reports. Patch notes name specific community complaints, including reducing the difficulty of Infested Nest battles "based on battlefield reports from multiple Leaders"
  • A roadmap exists, published with the launch announcement, but it is an image rather than text, and it covers game content rather than platforms. See Roadmap
  • Balance is not settled. Numbers in any guide — including ours — can change on the next patch

The practical read: this is a good moment to buy if you enjoy watching a game change under you, and a bad moment if you want a fixed, finished experience.

The Pax Autocratica demo is gone, and it is not coming back

This is the single most-asked question on the game's Steam forum, and it has a definite answer.

A demo was available through July and early August, updated repeatedly — the official announcement feed carries eight separate "DEMO UPDATE" posts between June 5 and August 1. It disappeared the moment Early Access launched.

The pinned forum thread on the subject has drawn 54 replies. The moderator's answer there is unambiguous:

"The Demo vanished as soon as Early Access released, as planned, and won't be back, sadly."

And, after checking with the developers:

"Sadly, I have confirmed that the Demo will not be coming back... It is just too much for them to handle as a small Indie Dev Team."

Steam's store API confirms it from the other direction: the app currently lists no demo package at all.

If you already downloaded the demo, it no longer launches — the entry in your library only offers uninstall.

So how do you try it before buying?

With no demo, three options are left:

  1. Steam's refund window. Under two hours played and under 14 days since purchase, refunds are effectively automatic. Two hours is enough to get through the opening colony setup and a first expedition — enough to know whether the colony-sim-plus-shooter combination clicks for you
  2. Watch a full run rather than a trailer. Trailers sell the fantasy; the colony management half is what people bounce off. Long uncut gameplay videos show the real pacing
  3. Read the reviews split. The game sits at a Very Positive rating, but the negative reviews are where the recurring frustrations show up

Will the price go up when 1.0 arrives?

The developer has not said. Nothing in the announcement feed addresses pricing after Early Access.

A price increase at 1.0 is a common pattern on Steam but not a rule, and guessing on the developer's behalf would be inventing information. If they announce something, it will appear on the Steam news feed first.

FAQ

Is Pax Autocratica free?

No. It is a paid one-time purchase, currently $24.89 on launch discount from $29.99.

Is there a demo?

Not any more. It was removed when Early Access launched and a forum moderator has confirmed it will not return.

How long was the demo?

Irrelevant now that it is gone — but note that the demo build was patched right up to August 1, so demo-era guides and videos still roughly reflect the current game.

Can I refund it?

Yes, under Steam's standard policy: under two hours played and within 14 days.

Is it on sale often?

Too early to say. It launched on August 10, 2026 with a 17% launch discount, and that is the only sale so far.

Does it have microtransactions?

No. It is single-player with no in-game store.
