Pax Autocratica Crashes and Fixes

Fixes for the Pax Autocratica problems players actually report on Steam: full PC shutdowns, invisible buildings, blurry ultrawide, and where to file a bug.

Every problem on this page is one players are actually reporting on the game's own Steam forum — not a generic list of PC troubleshooting steps. Where the community or a moderator reached a conclusion, we say what it was and link the thread so you can read it yourself.

Pax Autocratica is in Early Access and patched three times in its first six days, so some of these may already be fixed by the time you read this. Check the patch list on Update History before spending an hour on a fix you no longer need.

Pax Autocratica shuts down my whole PC

This is the most serious report so far, and the thread is worth reading in full — 20 replies, and the community diagnosed it.

Symptom: the entire machine powers down, typically after finishing the first decisive battle. Not a game crash, not a freeze — the PC turns off.

What the diagnosis turned out to be: the player checked Windows Event Viewer and found Kernel-Power, Event ID 41 — both times. That error is not a game bug. It means the system lost power without a clean shutdown, which points at heat or power delivery, not at Pax Autocratica's code.

How to check yours:

  1. Search Windows for Event Viewer
  2. Go to Windows Logs → System
  3. Right-click → Filter Current Log, tick Critical and Warning
  4. Look for Kernel-Power (41) around the time it shut down

If you see Kernel-Power 41, the community fixes are the usual thermal and power list, in rough order of cost:

  • Cap your frame rate (60 fps is the suggestion) — heat you generate for frames you cannot see is pure waste
  • Turn off frame generation and ray tracing
  • Undervolt the GPU
  • Clean the fans and check case airflow
  • Use two separate PCIe cables to the GPU rather than one daisy-chained cable — some cards spike hard enough to overload a single cable's capacity
  • Repaste the CPU/GPU
  • If it persists, the PSU may not have enough headroom

Why a heavy scene triggers it: a decisive battle is the most demanding thing in the game — large unit counts and effects — so it is where a marginal power supply or a dusty cooler finally gives out.

Invisible buildings in Pax Autocratica

There is a pinned forum thread specifically for this bug, which means the developers are aware and tracking it. If you hit it, add your report there rather than opening a new thread — a pinned thread with reproduction steps is what gets a bug prioritised.

Pax Autocratica looks blurry on ultrawide monitors

Reported by players on very wide displays. If your image looks soft rather than sharp:

  • Confirm the game's resolution matches your monitor's native resolution
  • Check whether any upscaling (DLSS/FSR) is on and set it to quality or off
  • Windowed vs fullscreen can also change how the image is scaled

This one has no confirmed fix from the developer yet — treat the above as things to rule out, not a solution.

Performance and stutter

Before assuming a bug, check your hardware against the official specs on System Requirements. The minimum is not low: an i5-8600 or Ryzen 5 1600x, 16 GB of RAM, and a GTX 1060 6 GB for 1080p.

If you are on Steam Deck, note that the game is rated Playable, not Verified — see Platforms and Steam Deck for what Valve flagged.

Where to report a Pax Autocratica bug so it gets read

The developer has said explicitly where they are looking:

"Field reports may be submitted through the in-game feedback tool, our Steam forums, or our community channels."

There is also a pinned forum thread titled "Help My Game Is Bugged/Glitched/ Broken" with a bug-report form. Use that rather than a fresh thread — a moderator on the forum has said they pass those reports to the developers directly.

The patch notes back this up: several fixes name the community reports that prompted them. This is a developer who reads the forum, so a well-written report is worth the ten minutes.

All official channels are listed on Official Links.

FAQ

Is the game itself causing my PC to shut down?

Probably not. The one detailed report traced it to Kernel-Power 41, which is a power or thermal event on your machine. The game is what exposes it, by being the heaviest thing your PC has run recently.

Are my saves safe if it crashes?

The game supports Steam Cloud and Save Anytime. Cloud saves sync between machines, but a crash mid-write can still cost you progress — save manually before a decisive battle.

Should I verify game files?

Yes, it is cheap and worth doing first: Steam library → right-click the game → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity.

The game will not launch at all — what first?

Update your GPU driver, verify files, and check that your OS is 64-bit Windows 10 or newer. The game does not support macOS or Linux natively.
