An expedition is a risk ladder. Defeating enemies advances the current run, but enemy strength rises with that progress. Return early when the displayed strength outpaces your force; reaching the decisive battle is not worth losing the resources and captives you meant to bring home.
What it is
The game frames victory as the accumulation of many expeditions rather than one continuous trip. A run can focus on gathering resources and returning before the enemy escalates, or it can push toward the sector overlord.
How to unlock it
The first expedition follows the opening base repair and early building tutorial. There is no account level or resource price to buy your way in, so use the tutorial objective that opens the sector map as the checkpoint.
How to operate it
Choose objectives on the sector map, defeat enemies, gather field resources, and watch both expedition progress and enemy strength. You may return to base before completing the run or terminate the current expedition. The next departure begins accumulating expedition progress anew, while the broader campaign grows through the rewards of repeated expeditions. Your selected Core Fragments reset when you return.
Numeric rules
Defeating enemies increases expedition progress. As that progress advances, resistance becomes fiercer. Enemy strength is displayed below the progress value, and the game itself recommends returning to build up the base when the current level is too high.
The decisive battle becomes available at 100% expedition progress. There is no fixed number of kills per percentage point.
Common mistakes
- Reading campaign progress and the current expedition meter as the same thing.
- Staying out because the progress bar is high while ignoring rising enemy strength.
- Assuming Core Fragments will remain selected after returning to base.
- Repeating a definite defeat penalty: accounts of what is lost on defeat conflict, so this guide does not state one.
When to use it or avoid it
Use short expeditions to bring back resources or captives before the strength level becomes unsafe. Push toward 100% when the force, equipment, and current fragment build are ready for the decisive battle. Return first if the game's own strength display is warning that the next fights exceed the current base's preparation.

FAQ
Does expedition progress carry unchanged into the next run?
No. A new departure begins accumulating expedition progress anew. The larger campaign is built from the growth and rewards of many runs.
Why are enemies getting stronger?
Enemy strength rises as more areas are explored and expedition progress advances. The level is displayed beneath the progress meter.
What happens if I am defeated?
Accounts of the exact loss disagree. Until that is settled on a single version, this guide deliberately gives no definite loss rule.
